WHAT ARE THE PREREQUISITES FOR INSTALLING HOSTFRONT / BLUEZONE ACCESS SERVER (BZAS)?

August 12, 2010

Introduction

BZAS/HostFront Server can be deployed as a single server or a cluster of servers. In either case, each BZAS/HostFront server supports multiple Host type connections (i.e. 3270, 5250 and/or VTxxx) for up to 2500 concurrent sessions.

BZAS/HostFront cluster is usually deployed when maximum availability is required. It takes advantage of HostFront’s built-in load balancing and fail-over capabilities. A cluster is also deployed when more than 2500 concurrent sessions of one host connection type is required.

This article describes the hardware prerequisites, which may vary depending on the total number of concurrent sessions needed.

More Information

This document is intended to help you define your requirements for the installation and rollout of either the BlueZone Access Server or the HostFront Server. It describes in a table format the minimum hardware and software requirements based on the concurrent sessions load for the following configurations:

  1. Single server with single host connection type.

  2. Single server with multiple host connection types.

  3. Cluster of servers with single host connection type.

  4. Cluster of servers with multiple host connection types.

BZAS/HostFront Server supports up to 2500 concurrent sessions per host connection type whether it resides on a single server or is part of a cluster. Therefore, every server added to the cluster increases its capacity by 2500 concurrent sessions per connection type.

1. Single BZAS/HostFront Server with a single host connection type:

The diagram below demonstrates the setup of a single BZAS/HostFront server with a single host connection type.

Note: .NET Framework 2.0 is required if you are creating the profile database on MS SQL Server 2005 Express. If the database server is running on a different machine, you do not need .NET Framework 2.0.

The information in this article applies to all listed Servers including Demo and Setup versions:

– BlueZone Access Server Ver. 5.2
– HostFront Server Ver. 5.2
